Computing services

One of the major investments at the Salomons campus has been in the provision of computing facilities for both students and staff. In all, some 250 PCs are installed across the site. They are located in lecture theatres, IT teaching suites, open access rooms, libraries, an Internet café and all seminar rooms.

The Salomons campus is connected to the Internet and the main campus at Canterbury and to the Broadstairs and Chatham campuses via the Kent MAN microwave link. This provides very fast access to email and learning and teaching materials throughout the University. Research requirements for high speed Internet access are well catered for.

Networked laser printers are provided in all computing rooms.

There are 2 main teaching Computing Suites – one in Runcie Court and one in the Mansion House. There are also computers available for open access in the two libraries.

All PCs have a basic set of software, which includes Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 suite, and all have a USB port available.
